M-ART, a new exhibition cell which is corporately held by Modern Sky and CIGE(China International Gallery Exposition), is about to blow up in the electronic music scene of 2008 MODERNSKY MUSIC FESTIVAL.
As the most influential Chinese label for indie-music, Modern Sky has not only made numbers of outstanding albums by Chinese musicians over the past 10 years, but also specializes in supplying a platform for more exceptional underground music to walk up on the stage. Furthermore, Modern Sky has brought the music of countless artists from all over the world into China. In a sense, music from Modern Sky has had significant influence on a whole generation of music listeners. Since 2007, Modern Sky Music Festival has become the most attractive music &culture carnival during Chinas Oct 1st "Golden Week" holiday. This time around, Modern Sky incorporates a visual art to show its rebellious, edgy and youthful spirit.
CIGE, the primary contemporary art fair in China, since its opened 2004, has become the top art fair in Asia and got international fame sky-high during in its five years' developing. The annual spring art fair is the most influential art event in China. CIGE has dedicated itself to promoting the development of Asian contemporary art industry, and offering an excellent platform for the communication between Asia and rest of the world. Via its special art projects, CIGE ceaselessly continues experimenting, plunging itself into the relationships between artistic mediums, such as music, technology, the city and fashion. M-ART is another creative venture of CIGE, and comes after the success of the exhibition MARY INN-When Art Meets Rock n' Roll. This time, M-ART will show paintings, photography, multi-media, installation artwork by emerging artists and musicians. We are hoping this will be a breath of fresh, creative air for all.
CIGE 2009 special project MAPPING ASIA and Art Expert Committee
The whole 2nd floor with 3 000 square meters of the Exhibition Hall of the China World Trade Center will exclusively host a number of solo shows of young and emerging artists from Asia. The projects are realized in collaboration with art galleries. During CIGE 2009 Preview the exhibited projects will be evaluated by an international Art Expert Committee, which will act as jury to select the 3 most interesting artists.
